In my last update, I spoke about trying to edge closer to my PB and finish the season on a high. Unfortunately I didn’t get any closer to my PB, my best was 58.97m at the LICC in Copthall. I was however still very proud of myself for the 60m throw in a stadium and was happy to end my season there.
I then had my 5 week Australian adventure to look forward to! Me and a friend from uni travelled all around the East Coast in our 4 and 6 bertha camper- travelling in style might I add! Spent time in Melbourne, Phillip Island, Cape Tribulation, Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, Fraser Island, Hervey Bay, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, Sydney and everything in between!
When I got back, I had some hospital appointments I needed to go to- I needed to find out what my ‘body malfunction’ was about (I mentioned it in my August blog). Turns out, I had kidney stones. Who knew! I was told I had them for all of 2014 which, now I think about it, is rather worrying! The only sign I had was during my qualifying round. This is the second time I have had kidney stones, the first time it was very, very painful and I collapsed at work during a PT session with a client in 2012! This time I didn’t have any idea and I had a lot more of them- the consultant stopped counting after 6 and added “well you had numerous, one of which was 4cm”! Not sure how I didn’t know I had that going on but they are all sorted now. Luckily because I have retained on Lottery Funding for another year, I have been able to continue with investigations into the kidney saga as I need to know how I can prevent them.
So, training started in late November for me. Its all about getting fitness back on track, strength back and beyond where it was and start looking like a Discus thrower again. I am spending most of my time in Broadbridge Heath in Horsham. I shall do the occasional session at Lee Valley so I can keep in the loop with the UKA physios and doctors about inevitable niggles and my kidney updates. I will work towards my warm weather training trip to Australia in mid January where I will be based in Sydney for 4 weeks. Then will write another blog and attempt to make more training videos!
Until then, over and out.
