Hey guys, been super busy with rehab, training, working- I now have 3 jobs! And more recently, getting back into competitions!
My last update was before the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Unfortunately that didn’t go to plan as my body quite simply, couldn’t hold on. My back got worse, pain killers increased, physio increased, taping went thought the roof! Also there was a coaching situation that I had to cope with which really didn’t help. In short, I thought I was going to work with one coach who I have worked with before, he left on the morning of my final, I had to work with a coach that I hadn’t worked with before and my 7th place, 53m throw speaks for itself.
After I got back from Australia, I made the big and scary call to part ways with my coach after 15yrs of working together. This was not an overnight decision, it was a long thought out process and was made because we couldn’t agree the way forward in the lead up to the 2020 Olympics. I now work with Zane Duquemin who is a Jersey athlete based in Loughborough.
Following on from moving to Zane, I have competed twice and both times thrown further than I did in Gold Coast 3 months ago. My mind and body is in a much better state with constant progressions in training. I have to say a huge shout out goes to Gordon Bosworth in Oxford for getting me back to fitness. Whilst I’m not in PB shape yet, I really feel it is now a matter of time before I’m back to those bigger throws and with the technical aspects being taken care of by Zane, I really am optimistic about the next 24 months.
Finally, I’d like to say I’m fresh from winning my 7th British title! Every one I’ve won has really meant a lot but this one, coming back from such a long time injured, it was really important for my confidence and to move forward with the season. It also meant I could secure my place on the European team in Berlin in August, and it automatically nominated me for the World Cup in 2 weeks time. So all in all, a good day!
I have a number of competitions coming up, the next few weeks should look like this- UK Womens League, World Cup, London Diamond League, English Championships.
